What is some of the best advice you have ever received? Don’t overthink things.

Are there any design rules you follow?

I've never been too fond of rules in general, so...not really! I'm a firm believer in using rules as guidelines. Know them, but politely choose to disobey.

Any secrets of capturing great images of your home?

You can have awesome content, but if the lighting is awful...what's the point? Natural light is key and worth waiting for.

What is something that you wish you would've known when you were 20? That a mohawk wasn't a great look for me. Seriously, what was I thinking! I guess...I wish I would've known that authenticity is more stylish than any trend.

What is essential to creating a personal sanctuary? I need good lighting, comforting scents (candles, incense, cooking) and plants. Always plants!

How do you stay centered in the middle of chaos? With two kids, this can be a real challenge! When time allows: long runs, reading and cooking are a few of my favorite ways to unwind.

What is essential to nurturing your creativity?

Time. Simply having a quiet moment to really process and understand what's going on in my head is essential. I never stop creating or thinking about creating. It's a blessing and a curse.

Tips for designing a nurturing home/space? Collect what you love and not what's trending. “Interested people are interesting.” I read that once and it's stuck with me ever since. I guess that's the way I view a space. “Be interested and your home will be interesting.”

Ways to make your space come more alive?

Color! Take chances with unexpected hues. I love these odd combinations: peach and vibrant orange, peacock teal with acid yellow and, lately, black ceilings have been stealing my heart.

Any design hacks you wanna share? Consider everything. Never underestimate the power of using something unexpected as art.

The 411 A Midwest native with an urban heart. When I'm not painting or designing I prefer to be with my family adventure seeking. Or in a dusty antique mall searching for something odd and unique.

The ORIGIN Slam Something you always have in your bag? Lip plumper. Go big or go home!

Where do you shop to find your pieces? Sleepy Midwest towns are treasure troves!

If you had to design a room in one color, what would it be? Midnight.

What designer or site gives you the most inspiration? Miles Redd is pretty bad ass.

What hashtags do you use to find awesome design on Instagram? #mycuratedaesthetic #currentdesignsituation and #thisiswhyithriftshopeveryday to name a few.

What's the fastest way to shift a space? Again, color. It's magical!

One of your favorite quotes? “Never love anybody who treats you like you're ordinary.” Oscar Wilde

Something we wouldn't know about you?

I’ve never met a pickled beet I didn't like.
