Plenty of cozy textures. 2. Plenty of light sources, from candlelight to daylight. 3. Lots of books. 4. A wood burner. 5. Beautiful scents from candles, etc.
+ I never pay full price for anything. I get my ideas from the internet and magazines and immediately think to myself, how can I recreate that for less?
+ I love adding hair pin legs to scaffold planks for inexpensive furniture.
+ You should have nothing in your home that doesn’t make you happy, and it shouldn’t cost you a lot of money either.
+ Buy what you love, ditch the rest.
CREATING A SANCTUARY
When creating a personal sanctuary, it’s essential to know yourself. Make sure you’re creating it for you, not to impress others. Really get in touch with what makes you feel good and only surround yourself with that.
MOST IMPORTANT DESIGN RULE
The only design rule that I follow is to try and only buy and use what you love in your home. Your home should make you feel happy and relaxed, so only choose furnishings that make you feel this way.
TEXTURE + COLOR
Color is not as important to me as texture, so I would always choose colors that make me feel happy and relaxed and that also look great alongside textures. These are usually natural colors like green and white, and earthy colors such as grays and taupes.
GREAT LIFE ADVICE
Don’t copy anyone, always walk your own path.
WHAT'S MISSING IN THE WORLD?
I always wish people would ask me how I’m really feeling, and then I can ask them how they’re really feeling, and then we can cut the small talk and just talk about what really matters.
WISH I HAD KNOWN AT 20?
I wish I’d known that you should go out into the world and try absolutely everything and meet as many people of all cultures as possible. I spent way too much of my youth being shy and cautious.
