Best Life Advice
I have learned that not everyone is going to like me, my design, my life choices, but that’s ok. It is important to ask yourself, Are you happy with your decisions and how you are living your life? And if you answer yes, then that’s all you need! People will appreciate you for being true to yourself. And if they don’t, then they’re not people you want to surround yourself with. Just do your best and be you.
If You Can Dream It, You Can Build It
When my husband and I bought our first house, we didn’t have a lot of extra money to buy all the great furniture pieces I wanted. We needed a dining room table, but it wasn’t in our budget. This is when I decided to try my first DIY project! I built our kitchen table, and seven years later, we still have it! I just recently changed out the legs to give it more of a modern look. Do not underestimate yourself: if you think you can build it, go for it!
No Matchy-Matchy
Mix and match! Growing up, my wardrobe and a lot of what was in my childhood home was always a perfect match. You couldn’t wear brown with black; if your bedroom dresser was white, then your bed frame was white too! Over the years I have learned that I much prefer a collected living space over a matchy-matchy living space. I love warm, earthy tones mixed with a modern design. Caramel, mustard, blush and ivory make for the perfect color combination.

Plant Power
You can never have too many plants! They add texture, warmth and color to any space. Many plants are also great air purifiers. Having plants maintain a natural healthy air flow in our home is huge, especially during the cold, dry winter months on the Canadian east coast!
Paint + Pillows
A simple and affordable way to refresh any space? Paint and pillows! A fresh new coat of paint can do wonders to any space. I am also loving the wallpaper and wall decal trend right now! I have used both in our home and loved the finished look. As for pillows, there are so many beautiful options out there, and this is an easy way to update your bedding or living space! My favorite pillow covers used in our home are from Tonic Living and Kaekoo Shop.
Choosing the Perfect Shade
Choosing a paint color can definitely be overwhelming. You don’t realize how many shades of blush are out there until you walk into a paint store. Knowing if you like warmer or cooler tones can help narrow down choices right away! Don’t be afraid to take home 20 paint swatches! Tape them to the area you are painting and give it a few days. You will just automatically start to take down the options that don’t strike a yes in the first 24 hours.
