A Few Days in the
SOUTH of FRANCE
During the last week of May, I spent my time in the South of France, mostly outside Saint-Rémy, along with a boat day off the coast of Cassis. As a photographer, what stood out to me most about this region was how it has maintained a timeless charm despite its popularity.
We stayed in the small town of Eygalières, about 20 minutes east of Saint-Rémy. I’m almost hesitant to reveal where we stayed since it’s such a beautiful little town that still feels under the radar. From the historic ruins overlooking the village, to the local markets and restaurants, to the countless vintage cars that drive through town, Eygalières was truly the perfect place to base ourselves.
As a photographer, I prefer visiting lesser-known places because they allow me to be more present and observe the simple things in life around me.
The other highlight of our trip was a day on a boat off Cassis. While sailing along the coast of France isn’t necessarily the most unique thing to do, the beauty is one of a kind and absolutely worth experiencing. The coastline is so vast that it never feels overcrowded.
We headed out early in the day, when it was still quiet, and captured some amazing shots of sailboats drifting alone in the distance. We eventually made our way to the Réserve Naturelle de l’Archipel de Riou, one of the most beautiful settings I’ve encountered in my travels.
Between the quiet mornings in Eygalières, wandering through old villages, and the endless views along the coast, it felt like a place that encourages you to slow down and pay attention.
These are often the destinations that leave the biggest impression on me—the ones that remind me that the best images usually come from simply being present and appreciating the beauty around you.
